Interview with Spockdesign’s founder,
Karim Chaya

Beirut
3 September 2018

> Why did you do this project?

• This project started life based on a friendship and shared passion for design and cars, what I believe to be along with enginering excellence and performance of course, the cornerstones of the Porsche philosophy.

• It is more of a quest for The Porsche that we think best personifies our passion for automobiles and the lifestyle that evolves around it, than the restoration of a barn-find that lead to string of decisions and collaborations.

• Bahamamama is more of a personal journey for Assaad and myself (personified by spockdesign in my case) and together we gathered a selected group of people who share and understand our enthusiasm; people like Johnny Farah who did all the leather detailing and custom luggage for Bahamamama. The way that we portray this endeavor should not allude to a commercial venture, but rather a labor of fun, enthusiasm and above all a passion for Porsche.

> What is your vision of this project?

• The vision I have is to do a trip around the world with this car. This car has a very simple mechanics that you could fix yourself. It is characterized by its Enginering - design - performance - ruggedness - desirability.

• My vision is to discover, visit. To visit as most of this planet as possible.

• It fits with the Bahamamama lifestyle.

• Good design is what links all these elements. It brings together all that is needed to create a world tourer, engineered by Porsche to take-on any road in any condition and look good doing it, very good! But above all, built to last a long, long time. What was left to do is, really make it our own, building on the design sensibility of the 911 and integrating our lifestyle and vision for overland travel, adventure and discovery.
