> Why did you decide to retore the 1968 Porsche 911 L into the Bahamamama?
My story with classic cars and specially Porsche cars goes back to my childhood. I used to wait for the school bus with a bunch of kids early morning at the same spot, next to that spot a Cockney Brown 911 Carrera 2.7 used to be parked. The highlight of the bus wait, for us kids, was to hear the roaring engine of the car while the owner drove off to work, it sparked our dream and filled our day with excitement.
One of these cold winter days, while we wait for the bus, my friend approached me with a huge smile and told me “Assaad, I dreamt that our neighbor’s Porsche delivered little Porsche cars and our neighbor called after us, you and me; and gave us one baby each….” I guess that sums the beginning of my story with Porsche and the rest is just a dream come true.
For me, classic cars specifically, besides bringing back the nice memories of our life, are peaces of History, art and craftmanship.
I was very happy discovering this 911 L in south of Lebanon back in 2011 and I decided, with a friend and a car aficionado Karim Chaya, to restore this car as a “gentleman racer driver car”.
Karim brought into this car a lot of design elements that are unique, handmade, from the nobs to the leather and the patterns.
We have worked closely with Spockdesign and our classic restoration team at Porsche Centre Lebanon to bring back this car to the best shape and usage – as per our initial expectations and more!
> Do you often drive the car?
Classic cars are meant to be driven not to be stored and looked at. For me, they bring back memories and emotions of the era in which they are anchored.
